The Keeping of Records

October 3rd-26th, 2013

Reception: Thursday October 10th 2013, 7-10pm

Graven Feather Toronto Art Gallery Studio Workshops

Friends and colleagues in the world of textile arts, these two artists bring a number of unusual methods and materials into the gallery. Needle-felted food, large-scale wet-felted wall hangings and beautifully sculptural layered prints on textiles hang against the walls of the gallery, prompting a conversation about food, needlework and other cultural practices. Themes of lost histories, social connections and ties through tradition are present.

The show demonstrates the innovative nature of contemporary craftwork and its commentary on community and change. The Keeping of Records introduces two different perspectives through the re-visioning of technique and narrative in domestic traditions of craft and the cultural document.
