Rebecca Cowan INTO THE WOODS

Rebecca Cowan INTO THE WOODS

Rebecca Cowan is an artist who is living and working out of Kingston, Ontario. There she is surrounded by certain stillness and calm that often only exists outside of cities. Looking at images of Rebecca’s work on the Studio 22 website I can see how her surroundings have translated into inspiration and talking to Rebecca I could hear a gentle thoughtfulness in her voice which is also apparent in her work. Rebecca’s series INTO THE WOODS will be on exhibit at Graven Feather August 3rd to 28th. The Reception will be held on Thursday August 4th where you will be...

Round and Round and IN THE ROUND!

Round and Round and IN THE ROUND!

Hello All! To those of you who have been long standing members of the Graven Feather community, you might know what summer means to us. It is a time for art crawls, sitting in Trinity Bellwoods and looking out for a white squirrel (or eating an ice cream from White Squirrel) and being surrounded by trees who beg to be painted, branches heavy with leaves. Introducing Andra Mares and Amelia

The start of summer has brought a new collaboration about at Graven Feather, this time with recent Humber graduate Andra Mares. We are working with Andra to release a series of letterpress cards, each one hand printed in the Graven feather studio. She walked in with a folder of images and full of the special spark which lives in a recent graduate excited to be on a journey and path in a field they...

Saskia van Kampen on SHED: Patterns of lives

I met with Saskia van Kampen by the Henry Moore sculpture at the AGO before settling in her office for our interview. A first surprise; I hadn’t known that Saskia was a design instructor at OCAD University. Saskia is currently getting pieces ready for SHED: Patterns of lives a show that will be opening at Graven Feather July 7th and running until July 30th. This will be her second solo show at Graven Feather after Mending, which ran in 2015. ** Image taken from Saskia's website. I chatted with Saskia and here is what she had to say: Alexis: Where...

Hello all!

Graven Feather has spent our past (and first) five years working to dissolve the boundaries that exist between artist, gallery and community. With a flexible workspace we have welcomed many people to explore and participate in on going exhibits, artist residencies and workshops. Since I have been working as a member of the Graven Feather team I have met so many of the artists who and whose work passes through our door. It has been a really enriching experience to get to talk with our artists one on one about their bodies of work, philosophies and work processes. I have...
